How to Get Into QRT (Qube Research) in 2026: Process & Pay

How to get into Qube Research & Technologies: who the 2027 internships are for, the coding-challenge-to-assessment-centre loop, pay estimates, and visa limits.

How to Get Into QRT (Qube Research) in 2026: Process & Pay

QRT is not hard to get into because of puzzles. It is hard because the loop is uneven: the 2027 postings promise a coding challenge and then interviews, but candidates report anywhere from three to six rounds, and some skip the coding test entirely (PracHub, September 2026). The firm grew from about $23 billion in assets in early 2025 to $38 billion by January 2026 (Disruption Banking, February 2026), so it is hiring fast, and the process has not been standardised to match.

The thing most applicants get wrong is the research-versus-engineering split. Research interviews lean on probability, statistics and machine learning. The developer and software engineer internship posting asks for C++, C# or Python plus Git, SQL and Linux. Pick one lane before you apply, because the prep is different.

Who they actually hire

QRT is a London-headquartered systematic investment manager founded in 2018 as a Credit Suisse spin-out. Quantt's careers guide (2026) puts headcount above 2,000 across 13 offices, with roughly a third of staff in Asia-Pacific and more than 85 nationalities. eFinancialCareers reported only about 10% of staff are portfolio managers, so most hires go into the large research and technology groups.

The 2027 intern postings, retrieved October 2026:

  • Quantitative Research and Trading internship: posted 25 September 2026, locations Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai and Beijing, 3 to 6 months, open to penultimate- and final-year Bachelor's, Master's and PhD students in data science, statistics, mathematics, physics or engineering.
  • Quantitative Developer / Software Engineer internship: same eligibility and length, asks for hands-on engineering shown through personal projects, open source or academic work. The posting says the internship leads to a competitive full-time graduate role on successful completion.
  • Other 2027 tracks: job trackers list FPGA engineering and security engineering internships too (startup.jobs, retrieved October 2026).

Notice what is not required: finance experience. What is required is something you can show. One more route that is easy to miss: Quantt reports that a strong result on the ENS Challenge Data platform can trigger direct follow-up from a team.

Timing is loose. PracHub (September 2026) says there is no fixed response guarantee and quotes one London candidate at one to two months end to end; a Glassdoor summary for quant research interns gives an average of 18 days to hire (retrieved October 2026). Glassdoor puts the quantitative researcher process at 3.1 out of 5 for difficulty and 50% positive experience; Quantt cites 2.9 out of 5.

What gets people rejected

1. Prepping the wrong round count. PracHub (September 2026) states that OA provider, question count, timer, cutoff, round count and decision timing are "not publicly fixed." Follow your own invitation and ask your recruiter what is next after each stage.

2. Weak statistics fundamentals. PracHub's study list is OLS derivation and intuition, multicollinearity, regularization (Ridge vs Lasso), conditional probability, hypothesis testing, non-stationarity and survivorship bias. A Glassdoor intern account describes ML questions on overfitting, data leakage and training on time series (retrieved October 2026).

3. Treating the take-home as a LeetCode problem. One Glassdoor candidate described a take-home asking them to predict stock returns with machine learning. Leakage and validation hygiene matter more than a fancy model.

4. A vague CV. Interviews start from your projects. A London candidate in October 2025 described a process of an HR screen then four interviews with heads of different desks, centred on past work, a factor they had built and how they improved it (Glassdoor, retrieved October 2026).

5. Sending a developer CV to a research role. The dev posting wants Git, SQL, Linux and a language; the research posting wants statistical depth. Mixed signals read as neither.

6. Assuming sponsorship. See the visa section below.

Pay, honestly

QRT does not publish graduate pay, so every figure here is an estimate or an all-staff average. Quantt's London estimates for year one are £140,000-£250,000 for a quantitative researcher, £105,000-£180,000 for a developer and £85,000-£150,000 for a data engineer (Quantt careers guide, 2026). Its firm profile gives $200K-$350K total for entry level, again as an industry estimate.

The firm-wide numbers show the ceiling. eFinancialCareers reported that the average UK employee earned £722,000 in 2024 and that compensation was 38% of revenues. Bonuses are described as discretionary and tied to the performance of the fund as a whole rather than individual P&L, and part of deferred pay is invested in the firm's own fund, which returned more than 30% in 2024. Disruption Banking (February 2026) puts the main fund's 2025 return at about 30%. Those are firm-wide averages, not what a new graduate sees.

Which lane should you pick?

  • Statistics or ML-heavy degree, strong on projects: research. Expect the CV deep dive and the stats list above.
  • Software background with C++, C# or Python: the developer or software engineer internship. It asks for engineering you can show, and the posting says it leads to a graduate offer on successful completion.
  • Needs visa sponsorship in the UK or US: treat both 2027 postings with caution; the developer one says no sponsorship, and the research one does not say.

A 4-week plan

  • Week 1: statistics you can derive. Derive OLS, then explain what collinearity does to it. Review Ridge vs Lasso and hypothesis testing, the topics PracHub lists.
  • Week 2: probability and Markov chains. Conditional probability sets and simple Markov chain questions, the topic Quantt's guide mentions.
  • Week 3: code. Timed LeetCode easy and medium in Python plus either C++ or C#. Practise streaming and time-ordered record problems, which PracHub flags.
  • Week 4: one real project. Build a small return-prediction notebook with a walk-forward split and a leakage check. It answers the take-home and gives you something concrete for the CV deep dive.

International students

The 2027 research internship is in Asia (Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, Beijing), which is a natural fit if you are heading home after a US or UK degree. The developer posting says no visa sponsorship is available, and the research posting is silent on it (QRT postings, retrieved October 2026), so ask early. If you aim at London instead, GOV.UK sets the Skilled Worker general threshold at £41,700 (retrieved October 2026), which Quantt's estimated graduate bands clear. The UK Graduate visa drops from two years to 18 months for applications on or after 1 January 2027, while PhD graduates keep three years (The PIE News, October 2025).

§ 01FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the QRT interview process for a 2027 internship?
The official postings describe three steps: an online application reviewed on a rolling basis, a coding challenge for selected candidates, then interviews on-site or on Microsoft Teams that test technical skill and fit (QRT 2027 postings, retrieved October 2026). Candidate reports are less tidy: a London account from February 2026 described three technical rounds, and an August 2026 account described three to six rounds with no separate coding test (PracHub, September 2026).
How hard is the QRT interview?
Glassdoor candidates rate the quant researcher process 3.1 out of 5 for difficulty with 50% describing a positive experience, and Quantt cites 2.9 out of 5 (retrieved October 2026). The content is probability, statistics, machine learning and a CV deep dive more than puzzles, so preparation that only covers brainteasers misses the point.
How much does QRT pay new graduates?
QRT does not publish graduate pay. Quantt's London estimates for year one are £140,000-£250,000 for a quantitative researcher and £105,000-£180,000 for a quantitative developer (Quantt careers guide, 2026), labelled as estimates. eFinancialCareers reported that the average UK employee earned £722,000 in 2024, an all-levels average that includes senior researchers.
Does QRT sponsor visas?
Not for the 2027 internship cycle as posted. The Quantitative Developer / Software Engineer internship posting says no visa sponsorship is available, and the Quantitative Research and Trading posting says nothing about sponsorship (QRT 2027 postings, retrieved October 2026). Confirm in writing before you rely on a full-time offer.
Where are the QRT 2027 quant research internships?
The Quantitative Research and Trading internship, posted 25 September 2026, lists Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai and Beijing. It runs 3 to 6 months from 2027 and is open to penultimate- and final-year Bachelor's, Master's and PhD students (QRT posting via Kadoa, retrieved October 2026).
