How to Get Into Tower Research in 2026: Teams, Loop, Pay

Tower Research 2027 hiring: nine open programmes, a $150K-$250K posted NY grad base, a super day spread across 2-3 trading teams, and why team match decides your pay.

How to Get Into Tower Research in 2026: Teams, Loop, Pay

Tower Research Capital's 2027 campus roles are already open and filling on a rolling basis, with no published deadline. The thing most applicants get wrong is thinking they are applying to one firm. Tower is a platform of independent trading teams, and its super day is spread across two or three of them: you pass or fail as an audition for specific desks, and the desk you match into after the offer sets much of your pay. The rest of the process is familiar quant fare. That one structural fact changes how you should prepare for every round.

Who they actually hire

Tower was founded in New York in 1998 by Mark Gorton, and runs as a partnership of trading teams that includes the Latour and Limestone businesses (Wikipedia, retrieved September 2026). Revelio Labs puts headcount at about 1,691 in March 2026, with 33.9% in South Asia, 32.4% in North America and 11.0% in Northern Europe (retrieved 25 September 2026). The India share is not a footnote: Quantt's May 2026 guide names top US engineering programmes plus the IITs as Tower's target pool, and on 21 September 2026 Tower's own news page recorded the firm being honoured at IIT Gandhinagar's felicitation ceremony.

The graduate intake is small. Quantt estimates roughly 80 to 120 graduates a year globally, and says Tower hires from non-target schools more readily than some peers, because a team that likes you can make the case for you. Revelio shows the firm still posting: 87 active postings in 2026, up 24.5% on 2025, although monthly posting velocity slowed from 33 new roles a month in 2025 to 25 in 2026.

On 25 September 2026 Tower's internships page listed nine programmes:

Tower's own April 2026 explainer is the best short guide to picking a lane. It describes quant trading as turning execution data into strategy improvements, quant research as turning data into validated signals, and quant engineering as turning ideas into fast, reliable production systems. For trading it wants shipped code such as backtesters or simulators alongside maths or physics training; for research, a portfolio with clear hypotheses and reproducible code; for engineering, CS fundamentals, Linux and a production mindset.

Extern's July 2026 guide puts the intern version at three to five weeks end to end, and describes a 90-minute OA mixing CS multiple choice, SQL and two coding problems. The India campus version is longer. An IIT Gandhinagar student who wrote up a September 2025 offer for a six-month core internship on the post-trade team sat a two-hour HackerRank test of ten multiple-choice questions on operating systems, databases, networking and OOP plus three medium-to-hard coding problems, after which ten candidates were shortlisted; the three interviews that followed mixed data-structure problems with Java, database sharding and designing a file system in OOP.

The questions Tradermath lists for the US loop are systems questions more than puzzles: a web-request throttler, TLB hits and misses, copy-on-write page counts, order-book design and the C++ memory model. On the quant side it lists hitting times for an asymmetric random walk and Fermi estimation, such as the surface area of a tennis ball. Almost every question has follow-up variants, so the graded object is how you reason, not the final number.

What gets people rejected

1. Correct but slow code. Tradermath's July 2026 guide says the engineering OA emphasises performance characteristics, not just passing tests. A brute-force solution that clears the samples is a weak submission here.

2. No microstructure. Tradermath lists neglecting market microstructure as a common failure. Tower's own trading-track description is about execution data and strategy tuning; if you cannot talk about queue position, fills or adverse selection, you are not describing the job.

3. Silent solving. The same guide names working without narration as a failure mode. Two or three teams are in the room across the day, and each is trying to picture you on its desk.

4. Treating team match as a formality. This is the Tower-specific one. Pay and day-to-day work differ by team, and Tradermath says candidates who treat the match casually hurt themselves. A Tower employee on Blind in March 2023, advising someone offered a seat on a brand-new team, described it as roughly the risk profile of joining a three-person startup: no guaranteed bonus, and P&L participation only after eighteen months to two years.

5. Not knowing which Tower you are joining. In a May 2021 Blind thread comparing an India Tower offer with Google, several respondents drew a line between quant and algorithmic-development roles and core engineering, and one put annual raises at 7-10%. A later Tower employee on Blind (August 2024) said work-life balance depends heavily on the team, and that a "tower core" quant developer and one embedded in a trading team do different jobs. Glassdoor's averages (4.1 overall from 353 reviews, work-life balance 3.6, retrieved September 2026) are averages across all of them.

Pay: posted bands, then the desk

Tower's New York 2027 QT/R posting lists a $150,000 to $250,000 base plus a discretionary bonus. Quantt's illustrative year-one figure for graduate engineers is $200,000 to $350,000 including signing and first-year bonus, and it labels its figures anecdotal estimates. For interns, the Summer 2027 quantitative developer posting lists $3,500 to $5,700 a week, and Extern reports housing and daily meals on top.

Treat levels.fyi's Tower software engineer median ($209K from 83 submissions, retrieved September 2026) with care: a third of Tower's staff are in South Asia, so the global median mixes very different markets. For a US or London candidate the posted band and the desk you match into matter far more. We compared Tower's structure with a single-P&L firm in HRT vs Tower Research.

International-student notes

Tower's intern postings state no sponsorship policy either way (Extern, September 2026), so the filing record is the better signal. layoffhedge counts 452 H-1B labour condition applications from Tower Research Capital LLC between FY2015 and FY2026, a median wage of $150,000, and 46 filings in FY2026 through June. The most common titles were software developer (155) and financial quantitative analyst (66). That is steady, modest sponsorship, not a guarantee for any particular seat.

Office choice matters more at Tower than at most peers. The London QT/R programmes are separate applications with their own cohorts, and the off-cycle research internships in Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Sydney run outside the US summer calendar, which suits students whose term dates do not match it. Tower's South Asian offices are large, but they are not a route to a US or UK work visa. If you are running several searches at once, the New Grad 2027 tracker shows what is open and what has closed.

A four-week plan

Week 1: choose a lane and apply. Use Tower's three-track definitions and apply to one track. Rolling seats close as they fill, so submit the week a role posts. Lead your résumé with the evidence the posting names: shipped systems in C++ for engineering, a backtester or simulator for trading, a reproducible research project for research. Check what a parser actually reads from your file with the free ATS résumé checker.

Week 2: build for the OA you will sit. Engineers: timed sets of two or three hard problems in C++ inside 90 minutes, then a second pass on constant factors. QT/QR: conditional probability, expected value and random-walk hitting times against a clock. India campus candidates: add OS, DBMS and networking multiple choice.

Week 3: systems and microstructure out loud. Rehearse the named prompts: a request throttler, TLB and copy-on-write, an order book, the C++ memory model, a Fermi estimate. Narrate everything. Read up on queue priority, adverse selection and how a market maker adjusts quotes.

Week 4: prepare for team match before you have an offer. Write three questions you would ask any desk: how long the team has run, how its P&L feeds into bonus, and what your first six months would ship. Tower's 15 September 2026 profile of George, a Princeton computer science graduate who interned in two summers and took his own index-futures model to production after joining full-time, shows what the firm likes to advertise: ownership of one project from research to live trading. Have your own version of that story ready.

Practice

Tower has no public question bank. The nearest published loops are its peers': Applr's HRT quantitative researcher mock runs the probability-then-implementation pattern Tower's QT/R screens use, and the Optiver software engineer mock leans on the performance-minded C++ that Tower's engineering OA grades.

§ 01FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How hard is it to get into Tower Research Capital?
Tower does not publish an acceptance rate. Quantt's May 2026 guide estimates the firm hires roughly 80 to 120 graduates a year globally, and says Tower hires from non-target schools more readily than some peers because of its team-of-teams structure. Revelio Labs counted 87 active Tower postings in 2026, up 24.5% on 2025 (retrieved 25 September 2026), so the funnel is open, but the super day is graded by several teams at once.
What does Tower Research pay new grads?
Tower's 2027 Quantitative Trader/Researcher posting for New York lists an annual base range of $150,000 to $250,000 plus a discretionary bonus. Quantt's illustrative estimate for year-one graduate engineers is $200,000 to $350,000 including signing and first-year bonus. Tradermath and Quantt both stress that pay varies by team, because each trading team runs its own P&L.
What is the Tower Research team match?
Tradermath's July 2026 guide describes a super day of five to six interviews spread across two or three trading teams, followed after the offer by several days of conversations with the teams that want you. Compensation varies across those teams. Tradermath lists treating team match as a formality as one of the common ways candidates hurt themselves.
How much do Tower Research interns make?
Tower's Quantitative Developer Intern – Summer 2027 posting lists a weekly base of $3,500 to $5,700 in New York and Chicago. Extern's July 2026 guide reports $112.50 an hour for software engineer interns and $3,000 to $5,000 a week for quant trader interns in New York, with housing and daily meals included.
Does Tower Research sponsor H-1B visas?
Its intern postings do not state a sponsorship policy either way (Extern, September 2026). The public filing record does show sponsorship: layoffhedge counts 452 H-1B labour condition applications from Tower Research Capital LLC between FY2015 and FY2026 at a median wage of $150,000, including 46 in FY2026 through June. Confirm for the specific requisition with your recruiter.
When should I apply to Tower Research for 2027?
Now. Extern reported in July 2026 that Summer 2027 roles were already open with no published deadline and rolling decisions, and Tower's internships page on 25 September 2026 listed nine programmes across New York, Chicago, London, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Sydney. Rolling seats close as they fill, so the week a role posts is the right week.
