Three signals matter most for SWE screening: (1) mission alignment authenticity — Palantir tolerates / pursues government / defense / intelligence work; performative enthusiasm is detected; (2) ambiguity-handling skill — Decomposition + Re-engineering rounds explicitly test this; (3) codebase navigation speed — Re-engineering round measures how fast you orient in unfamiliar 200-500 line codebases.
Compensation per Levels.fyi: SWE US median $260K, NYC $225K, Forward Deployed SWE (customer-facing) $215K. Below FAANG-NYC senior bands but above tier-2 startups; stock is publicly tradable (post-IPO advantage). 12-month cooldown after final-round rejection — make the loop count or delay applying. International candidates eligible for commercial roles (Foundry, Apollo) — government-side roles excluded by security clearance requirements.
